Primary Purpose:To contain any explosion that might occurinsidethe enclosure. This prevents the ignition from propagating to the flammable gases, vapors, or dusts in the surrounding atmosphere.
How it works:The enclosure is built with heavy-duty, flame-path joints (like machined flanges). If an internal electrical spark ignites a gas mixture, the hot gases are cooled as they escape through these long, narrow paths, preventing them from igniting the external atmosphere.
Common Standards:IEC/EN 60079-1, ATEX "d", NEC/CEC Class I, Division 1 (Groups B, C, D).
